THE DEVIL OF APPALACHIA is the story of CHARLEE MERCER, a young, metropolitan, business professional who spends her vacations hiking the Appalachian Trail with her fiancé, BEN, her sister KAREN, and Karen's husband, SIMON. All experienced hikers, their shared life goal is to eventually hike the entire 2,175 mile trail. They arrive at their base camp ready to trek the southern section; they strap on their packs and hike into the woods.
As the group is enveloped by the remote wilderness, they sense that they’re being followed. When they refer to their map, they can’t locate where they are, even though they’ve been following the trail markers. Suddenly, a HUNTER fires a rifle at them and they scatter into the woods. Simon and Karen soon disappear at the Hunter’s hand, while Charlee and Ben become his next prey. Now Charlee and Ben must navigate an unfamiliar wilderness of traps, decoys and deadly pitfalls to survive. It is only when another trap snares Ben and Charlee is left to her own devices that she becomes the Hunter’s prize animal. In order for her to save her friends and escape the wilderness alive, Charlee must now face the Hunter alone and beat him at his own game.
